Weighted overlap sums min(weight in A, weight in B) across shared names — a common portfolio-hygiene signal. Jaccard is |intersection| / |union| of holding names. High overlap can mean you are paying multiple expense ratios for a similar economic bet. Educational estimate only — not investment advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is mutual fund overlap?

Fund overlap means two or more schemes hold many of the same underlying stocks or securities. You can own several folios and still be concentrated in the same economic bets if top holdings and sector weights look alike.

What is weighted overlap vs Jaccard?

Jaccard overlap is a set metric: shared holding names divided by the union of names. Weighted overlap sums the minimum weight of each shared name across the two funds — closer to how much of the portfolio is economically duplicated. Both are educational signals, not a sell instruction.

Where do I get holdings data?

Use each scheme’s latest factsheet, portfolio disclosure or AMC site. Paste Name, weight% lines into this tool. Sample demo portfolios are illustrative placeholders only — not live NAVs or product recommendations.

Is high overlap always bad?

Not always. Some overlap is normal in the same SEBI category. Persistently high overlap across funds you thought were different can mean you are paying multiple expense ratios for a similar book. Prefer redirecting new SIPs before rushing redemptions; tax and exit loads matter.
